Driver leads San Diego police on high-speed chase through National City
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego police were led on a high-speed chase through National City Tuesday afternoon after receiving reports of a stolen vehicle.
The chase began shortly before 5 p.m. at 31st and L streets.
According to San Diego police, the suspect fled over various city streets, including Imperial Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard, eventually running over a tire- flattening spike strip that officers had laid out in his path.
The man soon entered Interstate 5 and fled to the north, then merged onto state Route 15 in Southcrest.
While attempting to merge onto the eastbound SR 94, the driver lost control of the stolen Nissan Altima and came to a half in the median.
According to Officer Dino Delimitros, police sent a service dog into the vehicle through the passenger window and then surrounded the vehicle with guns drawn.
They pulled the driver out and took him into custody around 5:20 p.m.
The suspect’s name was not immediately available.
