Driver rear-ended by suspected drunk driver hospitalized with broken neck
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — The driver of a truck rear-ended by a suspect drunk driver in Palm City was transported to the hospital with major injuries Thursday, San Diego police said.
A Nissan Xterra traveling on eastbound Palm Ave. ran a red light at the intersection with Saturn Ave. and crashed into a Nissan Frontier making a right turn around 1:45 a.m. Thursday, sending the Xterra down an embankment, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said.
The driver of the Frontier suffered a broken neck and was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries, Martinez said.
The crash prompted authorities to close eastbound Palm Avenue between Saturn Boulevard and Interstate 5. Delimitros said a SigAlert would likely remain in effect until about 6:30 a.m. San Diego police Traffic Division continues to investigate.
