Driver strikes three pedestrians standing in church food service line

El CAJON – Three pedestrians were struck by a car while they stood in line for a food service at a local church Tuesday night in El Cajon.

The driver of the car backed her vehicle out of a parking stall within the church parking lot. The driver suddenly lost control and collided with an unoccupied Ford SUV.

The moving vehicle struck three pedestrians and pinned two of them between a wall and the vehicle. 

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church had food service on premise and were providing food to families in need. According to church staff and witnesses, these people were staged in the west parking lot along the cement block wall waiting to receive food.

The three pedestrians sustained significant injuries and were transported to a local area hospital where they are receiving medical care. One of them was released from the hospital. 

The driver sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local area hospital to receive medical treatment.

This investigation is on-going and information about the pedestrians and driver are not being released at this time. Based on the preliminary investigation, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision at this time.
