DUI checkpoints net 28 arrests over Labor Day weekend

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Three DUI checkpoints netted 28 arrests in San Diego over the Labor Day weekend, and 31 vehicles were impounded, police said Tuesday.

The checkpoints were conducted Friday in the downtown area, Saturday in San Ysidro and Monday in Pacific Beach, said Officer Mark McCullough of the San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division. He said there were 11 arrests and 12 impounds Friday, 11 arrests and 11 impounds Saturday, and six arrests with eight vehicles impounds Monday.

The checkpoints targeted “those who still don't heed the message to designate a sober driver,” he said. They were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
