Dump truck spills 12 tons of gravel across I-805 in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A rock spill on the NB I-805 caused some traffic today. A dump truck’s door opened on the belly of one of the two trailers and dumped large rocks across several lanes of traffic.

The CHP had to shut down the freeway for approx. 1.5 hours, until 2 lanes were semi-cleared of the rocks by CalTrans crews.

The lanes were shut down again after 15 mins. A SIG ALERT was issued.

The CHP stated the freeway will still be dangerous as they can’t clean up all of the rocks and tires will send some flying into other vehicles and there will be a potential for accidents to happen.

The driver was ticketed and the company will be fined, according to the CHP.
