Early morning carjacking leads to pursuit, arrest
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A couple carjacked an SUV at gunpoint in Linda Vista early Friday, leading to a brief pursuit that ended with the woman being arrested and her male accomplice apparently getting away, police said.
The victim had started his black Ford Expedition to warm it up and gone back inside his residence in the 6500 block of Lanston Street around 4:45 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.
As he came back to the vehicle, he saw a man and woman inside and one of them was pointing a handgun at him, Cali said.
The couple then drove off but was spotted a short time later by officers, who pursued the vehicle on southbound state Route 163 and into the parking lot of Fashion Valley Mall, according to Cali.
The Expedition eventually crashed into a pole near the JC Penney-end of the mall, Cali said, adding that woman was then taken into custody but the man bailed on foot.
He was seen running toward the Town and Country Resort Hotel. Cali said as of 8 a.m., officers were still searching the area but the man was no where to be found.
Police were looking for a Hispanic man in his 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with black hair. He wore a black hoodie and blue jeans, Cali said.
