East County Game of the Week: El Capitan 63, Grossmont 28
Vaquero’s quarterback Brad Cagle and his teammates at El Capitan are on a mission to conquer the city of San Diego. Cagle threw for 297 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran for another 71 yards and two touchdowns as El Capitan pillaged the Grossmont Foothillers 63-28 to keep their undefeated season in tact.
Feast and famine was the theme of this game, as senior standout Isaiah Capoocia caught nine passes for 169 yards and four touchdowns. Senior running back DJ Smith led the Vaquero backfield with 96 yards and two touchdowns but the team combined 230 yards and four touchdowns in a game that was never in question.
Foothiller junior quarterback Calvin Farris threw for 355 yards and 4 touchdowns, but he also tossed 5 interceptions in the loss. Grossmont was too far down and ineffective on the ground, gaining only 52 yards on 17 carries. Defensively, Grossmont struggled to slow down the plethora of talented athletes on the other end of the ball.
Grossmont (3-3) will take on Steele Canyon (5-1), who is steaming after losing their undefeated record in a 41-0 spanking by Helix. El Capitan (6-0) will host Valhalla high school at home in Lakeside.
