El Cajon Ford East County Game of the Week: Granite Hills Eagles 17, Poway Titans 13
Week 1 of the Prep Pigskin Report is in the books and your El Cajon Ford East County Game of the Week winner for Week 1 is Granite Hills, as the Eagles defeated Poway, 17-13.
Both teams put up a great fight for their first game but Granite Hills pushed their way to the finish line.
The action started late in the first quarter with Eagles quarterback Chris Ostreng’s pass to Jacob Setterberg for a 56 yard gain to end the first quarter.
The Eagles would get on the board first at the start of the second quarter with a field goal. Granite Hills was also the first team to score the first touch down.
Ostreng showed off his passing skills with a 28-yard touchdown pass to James Johnson. Granite Hills was still in the lead 10-0.
Shortly after, the Titans answer back after working their way down the field. Justin Kramer runs the ball in from the 1-yard line to put the Titans on the board, 10-7.
In the third quarter, Granite Hills had the ball and Ostreng scrambled to find Kole Brown for a 5-yard touchdown pass to advance the score 17-7.
It wouldn’t be until the fourth quarter for the Titans to add more points. Junior quarterback Maximus Brown found Noah Araujo for a quick 4-yard touchdown pass to change the score to 17-13.
With just seconds left in the fourth quarter, Poway tried for a Hail Mary, but there was a flag, and the ball was moved 10 yards.
Poway has another shot at a Hail Mary and the same thing happened again.
On the third try, Maximus Brown attempted the Hail Mary one last time and it was intercepted in the end zone and Granite Hills won.
The Poway Titans will have their first home game of the season next Friday against Olympian. The Granite Hills Eagles hit the road and head to to Mt. Carmel.
