Eastlake 35, Otay Ranch 21
Going in to Friday night’s Homecoming game at Eastlake High School, the Otay Ranch Mustangs had never defeated the Titans in school history. In Week 11 of the Prep Pigskin Report, it was a hard fought battle between the two South Bay schools, with the game being tied three times throughout the night. But in the end the Eastlake Titans were able to come out with the win by a score of 35-21.
Running back Isaiah Strayhorn made his presence known early on in the game on Eastlake’s first drive by scoring an 18-yard touchdown run to put Eastlake up 7-0. However, the Otay Ranch Mustangs were not going down without a fight. On the ensuing drive of the game, Otay Ranch Quarterback Oscar Limon found Ennovy Halton for a 20-yard connection. This would set up Jensen Peterson’s 1-yard touchdown run to tie the game up at 7.
Starting off the 2nd quarter with a bang was Eastlake’s Isaiah Strayhorn, who was not done scoring as he broke numerous tackles to go 19 yards into the end zone. However, this 14-7 lead would not hold for long. Going in to the 3rd quarter of the game the dynamic duo for Otay Ranch would strike the Titans as quarterback Oscar Limon found his wide receiver Adrian Rodriguez on 3rd down and 17 yards to go for a 75-yard touchdown. This tied the ball game up at 14.
The defense for Eastlake was able to stop the Mustangs from scoring again in the 3rd quarter. Instead the Titans’ offense would take advantage of the time remaining and score with 55.9 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Who scored the touchdown for Eastlake? Running back Isaiah Strayhorn, who had 3 touchdowns on the night. This gave Eastlake a 21-14 lead.
With 9:05 remaining in the 4th quarter the Mustangs scored again. Limon found his man Adrian Rodriguez for his 2nd touchdown of the night. This time it was a 13-yard touchdown to tie the ball game up yet again at 21.
An undefeated finish in league was on the line for the Eastlake Titans and with that in mind, they were able to seal the victory with a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Izzack Morales and a 26-yard touchdown by Michael Kohler on the interception of Limon. This 35-21 win gives the Titans an undefeated record in league and an overall record of 7-3 going in to playoffs.
With this loss the Otay Ranch Mustangs finish the regular season with an overall record of 5-5 and a 1-3 record in league. As the regular season ends, next week the 2014 playoffs season begins.
