El Cajon is adding 10 more officers to the Police Department after COVID-19 vaccine mandate
EL CAJON (KUSI) – On Good Evening San Diego, KUSI’s Logan Byrnes talked with El Cajon Mayor, Bill Wells, about how El Cajon is adding 10 more Police Officer positions to the city’s department.
The newly created jobs are for officers willing to make a lateral career move to the city.
The new El Cajon jobs come as nearby San Diego wrestles with the prospect of losing police officers who refuse to get the COVID-19 vaccine as mandated by the city. As of the start of December, some 160 officers were unvaccinated and had not asked for an exemption .
Mayor Bill Wells told council members the expansion was “a great idea.” He spoke of “the opportunity to hire some very experienced police officers, and not have to spend the amount of time training brand new officers.”
