El Cajon woman struck by vehicle, dies later at hospital

EL CAJON (KUSI) – A woman in her 60’s was struck by a vehicle in El Cajon and later died from her injuries at a hospital.

Officers responded about 7:50 p.m. to the 800 block of South Mollision Avenue and located the victim, who was taken by paramedics to a hospital where she died, according to Lt. Stephen Kirk of the El Cajon Police Department.

A preliminary investigation determined the driver of a gray 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on South Mollison Avenue when the woman crossed the street outside a marked crosswalk and was struck by the Explorer, Kirk said.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash, Kirk said.

South Mollison Avenue between Merritt Drive and East Washington Avenue will be closed until 2 a.m. Saturday while detectives conduct their investigation into the accident, he said.

Anyone who witnessed this crash was asked to call the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3311.
