El Capitan 34, Mount Miguel 14

As week ten commences, El Capitan High School still has an undefeated football team! This week, the matadors came up a little short, as the Vaqueros took the win 34-14. In a Halloween spooktacular, the matadors came out fighting for their homecoming game, leaving it all on the field. The interception and long touchdown pass was just not enough this week as the undefeated Vaqueros came out on top.

With El Capitan’s first possession, DJ Smith took the ball into the end-zone for a 4 yard touchdown, starting off the game 7-0. Later in the first quarter, Mount Miguel’s Christian Garcia intercepts Brad Cagle’s pass and runs it back for a 50 yard Matador touchdown. But, on the ensuing kickoff, Isaiah Cappoocia returns the ball for a long 90 yard touchdown, and the Vaqueros were up 14-7.

In the second quarter, DJ Smith had two short touchdowns, making the score 27-7. In the third quarter, Mount Miguel tried to fight back with a beautiful pass from Jacob Castillo caught by Antoinne Hamilton for a 51 yard touchdown. But, it wouldn’t be enough. In the fourth quarter, DJ Smith ran for 5 yard touchdown, his 4th touchdown of the night, and the Vaqueros left Spring Valley with a 34-14 win.

Next week, El Capitan will host the Helix Highlanders next week in a battle for the league title. With both teams being undefeated in league, this is sure to be a match-up that all of East County won’t want to miss. Who will win this epic battle, the PPR Game of the Week?
