El Capitan 51, West Hills 7

Vaqueros head coach Ron Burner said he was hungry for a win this week against his former team, The West Hills Wolf Pack. The cross-town rivalry has been raging for more than a decade with both sides dealing blows.

Burner’s craving was satisfied as El Capitan rolled to a 51-7 victory in front of a roaring home crowd. Isaiah Capoocia scored three times on the ground and looked electric as the Wolf Pack defense struggled to even put a hand on him.

Senior quarterback Brad Cagle started off the opening drive with a great stiff arm as he rolled right and found Zach Cagle for a 16 yard strike into Wolf Pack territory. A 15 yard roughing the passer penalty set up Isaiah Capoocia who scored on the next play from 22 yards out, shaking off defenders down the right sideline to make it 7-0.

Miscues plagued West Hills in the first quarter, as quarterback Kian Ahmadian was intercepted by Sam Melero and returned it for six, making it 14-0. After another El Capitan touchdown by DJ Smith, West Hills hiked the ball over their punters head into the end-zone for a safety to make it 23-0 Vaqueros after one.

It only got worse from there as an excellent draw play fooled the defense and DJ Smith cruised down the sideline for a 70 yard score. Two more Capoocia touchdowns of 4 and 42 yards to make it 44-0 before West Hills finally got on the board in the fourth with a 76 yard strike from Spencer Moyer to Raphy Carr.

El Capitan will head to winless Serra high school (0-3), next week and has outscored their opponents 121 to 14 this season. Meanwhile, West Hills will lick their wounds and head home to face La Jolla (1-2).
