Encinitas toddler struck and killed by car

ENCINITAS (CNS) – A 3-year-old boy was struck and killed by a car in a
coastal North County neighborhood Friday, authorities reported.

The driver of a Toyota Camry was pulling out of a driveway in front of
an apartment complex in the 300 block of Encinitas Boulevard on his way to work
when the child ran directly in his path on the roadside shortly before 7:30
a.m., according to the sheriff's officials.

The toddler wound up pinned beneath the sedan, Deputy David Loe told
reporters. Passers-by were able to lift it enough to free the child, who died
at the scene.

The boy's name was withheld pending family notification.

The motorist was not expected to face charges, Loe said.
