Escondido Cougars 38,Orange Glen Patriots 13

Finishing up week nine the Escondido Cougars were able to take their first victory of the season. They produced an upset on Orange Glen’s Senior night outscoring them 38 to 13.

During this game Escondido’s Orion Diaz was able to intercept the Patriot ball twice, both possessions lead to a Cougar scoring play.

Starting with the first quarter Cougar quarterback Sam Grimes made connection with Calvin Washington for the first touchdown of the game. Later in the first Grimes makes his second touchdown pass of the night to Ramiro Delfin.

Moving to the second part of the Cougars make a quarterback switch to Kellen McCoy. McCoy started off with a hand off to Manny Peddicord who ran in for another Escondido touchdown. McCoy makes another handoff to star running back Austin Riemann. The Cougars prowled to the victory.

The Patriots were able to rack up 13 points in this ballgame but it was not enough against this strong Cougar offense. Escondido is hoping this win is just what they needed to keep improving their record.

Next week Escondido will be making a trip to Valley Center and Orange Glen will be traveling to Fallbrook, both games will be vital for these teams as they are both league games.

Preview:

Week 9 of the Prep Pigskin Report will bring you an Escondido rivalry. With only four short miles between Orange Glen and Escondido High, you can imagine the tension between the teams. This league game will be played at Orange Glen, but with such little distance between the schools, the Escondido fans should show up and make noise.

The Cougars have had a tough season and are still struggling to get their first win. They are hoping to get in the win column with stellar play from some of their key players.

Sam Grimes has racked up 631 yards and thrown for six touchdowns this season. Manny Peddicord, Escondido’s leading rusher, has rushed for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Rieman has been a bright spot. He is leading the team in receiving yards with more than 450.

Orange Glen has had a decent season so far. They know they can do better. The Patriots are coming off a rough loss (44-0) against their other cross-town rival San Pasqual. Richard Barry is one of the Patriot’s weapons. He ran for three touchdowns against San Ysdrio in Week 3. When asked about this rivalry, Orange Glen Coach Jason Patterson said, “It’s a nice little rivalry, but regardless of whom we play, we’re just excited to get out there and keep playing some good football.”

Last year, the Patriots and Cougars met in Week 8. Escondido pounced away with the 28-7 victory.
