Escondido couple to be honored by White House

ESCONDIDO (CNS) – An Escondido couple will be among 12 veterans and their families honored by the White House Wednesday for the benefits stemming from their small businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Colin and Karen Archipley co-founded Archi’s Acres Organic Farming Enterprise, a certified organic greenhouse operation that grows basil, kale and other herbs and produce.

The couple also created the Veterans Sustainable Agriculture Training Program in partnership with Cal Poly Pomona. Colin Archipley is a combat-decorated Marine Corps sergeant.

Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, and Daymond John, Kevin O’Leary and Robert Herjavec from the ABC series “Shark Tank,” are set to participate in the ceremony at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building honoring “Champions of Change.”

The Champions of Change program was created by the Obama administration as an opportunity for the White House to feature individuals, businesses and organizations doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities.
