Escondido Cycle Center Game of the Week: Torrey Pines Falcons 33, Mission Hills Grizzlies 14

Torey Pines (7-2, 4-1) went "Old School Falcon Football" to beat Mission Hills (6-3, 4-1) 33-14 in the Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the week.  What looked like it would be a close game to the end was put to rest when Torrey Pines opened the second half of the game with a 15 play, 80 yard drive that lasted 8:32, finishing with a one yard touchdown run from senior fullback Luke Duerr to give the Falcons a 21-14 lead.

The rest of the 2nd half the Falcons dominated the line of scrimmage, holding the Grizzlies to (-22) yards rushing including a safety when the Mission Hills punter was tackled in the end zone by Scotty Gange for a 23-14 lead.

Ron Gladnick’s team ran the "Wing-T" to perfection rushing for more than 360 yard with both Duerr and running back Sully O’Brien accounting for more than 100 yards a piece on the ground.

This sets up a big last week of the regular season, despite the loss Mission Hills moves up to #2 in the San Diego CIF Power rankings, while Torrey Pines is on the cusp of an Open Division berth at #11.

Both teams will be on the road next Friday Torrey Pines will visit rival La Costa Canyon, and Mission Hills will travel to San Marcos for the "Discovery Bowl".  If both teams win, they will share the Avocado League title. A loss by either team with a win by the other and there will be an outright winner of the new Avocado League.

The Escondido Cycle Center takes us to Mission Hills where the Grizzlies (6-2, 4-0) will host Torrey Pines (6-2, 3-1).  Mission Hills will have a chance to clinch at least a share of the Avocado League title with a win over the Falcons.

Both of these teams have played great defense in league play. Mission Hills gives up just 18 points a game, while the Falcons give up 21.  Which means this one will come down to the teams offense that make a big play against the other ones defense.

The Grizzlies have one of the best quarterbacks in San Diego County in junior Jack Tuttle, and when he needs a big play those usually come from senior receiver Christian Esqueda and junior running back Samuel Dixon.

As for the Falcons they are lead by senior Running backs Luke Duerr Luke Duerr (546 yards rushing, 7 TD’s) and junior running back Sully O’Brien (437 yards rushing, 3 TD’s).  Paving the way for them is offensive lineman Yujay Kurosu.

Mission Hills has the edge all time at 3-0-1, including a 23-0 win in 2015.
