Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the Week: Mission Hills Grizzlies 42, Oceanside Pirates 25

The Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the week is a match up of two of the 16 undefeated teams left in the San Diego Section. Oceanside (4-0, 1-0) will host Mission Hills (3-0, 1-0) in what has turned into a Heavyweight boxing match on the football field.

If you "Check the tape" or in this day and age "Hudl", two things stand out with these two teams. Oceanside’s offensive line and Mission Hills quarterback Jack Tuttle, and the Grizzlies defense.

The Pirates line averages 280 pounds across the board, anchored by Junior left tackle Donovan Laie, , and senior linemen Mykel Bernal, Dyllan Tuisee, Mason Buzcek & Isaiah Kaleopa-Tuisee who are a big reason why Oceanside has started the season beating some of the best football programs in San Diego and Orange County.

The Pirates started the season with a 51-42 win on the road at then nationally ranked San Clemente High School, add on two more road win at Temecula Chaparral and San Marcos, makes you realize this Pirates team is one of the best teams in San Diego County.

Oceanside is lead by quarterback Max Shuffer (11 TD’s Passing and 3 Rushing), and do it all player Jake Gerardi TE/DE/K  who leads the team in scoring.

Mission Hills has started the season playing another tough non-league schedule, since their inaugural Open Division Championship in 2013. In 2016  the Grizzlies have been the heart attack cubbies..

The Grizzlies  beat Crenshaw on the road 21-20 after a defensive stop on a 2-point conversion, then a late "Hail Mary" from Jack Tuttle to Ian Fryday on 4th and 13 with 1:30 left to beat Sabino out of Tucson 10-7, and a 12-7 win at home against a tough Carlsbad team where you can thank the Mission Hills defense lead by linebacker Bryan Barraza. In three games they have given up an average of 11 points a game.

Expect a hard hitting low scoring defensive battle. #RicksPick Oceanside 17 Mission Hills 16.
