Escondido motorcyclist struck and killed by big rig
ESCONDIDO (KUSI) – A man was struck and killed Wednesday by a big rig after being thrown from his motorcycle in a separate collision, though authorities believe that the driver of the big rig unknowingly struck the man.
The initial collision between the motorcycle rider and a pick-up truck occurred just after 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of East El Norte Parkway and North Rose Street. The motorcycle struck the back of the truck as the truck slowed to a stop at the intersection and was thrown from his bike.
As the motorcyclist lay on the ground, he was then struck and killed by the big rig truck, according to witnesses. The driver of the 53-foot-trailer-hauling semi, seemingly not knowing that he struck someone, kept driving along and did not stop.
The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, and his name was not made available. The driver of the pick-up truck was not hurt in the crash.
Police are asking that the driver of the big rig or anyone with any other information to call (760)839-4454.
