Escondido SWAT stand-off ends peacefully
ESCONDIDO (CNS) – A San Jose man suspected of committing an armed robbery at a North County convenience store early Wednesday, then escaping following a police road chase, was taken into custody at a motel hours later.
Domi Gustavo Jimenez, 26, allegedly confronted a clerk at the 7-Eleven in the 600 block of North Ash Street in Escondido shortly before 2:30 a.m., displayed a pistol tucked in his waistband and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, said Lt. Eric Skaja.
Jimenez drove off in a late-model white sedan, which officers caught up with a short time later, he said. During an ensuing pursuit, the suspect managed to elude the patrol personnel, then ditched the vehicle and escaped on foot, the lieutenant said.
Later in the morning, police tracked down Jimenez at a motel in the 900 block of North Quince Street, near North Centre City Parkway. When he refused repeated orders to surrender, a SWAT team was summoned, Skaja said. The special weapons and tactics personnel forced entry to the room and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
