Escondido woman who died in fire identified
ESCONDIDO (CNS) – Authorities Wednesday released the name of the 76-year-old woman who died in a hospital several days after being severely burned in a fire at her Escondido home.
Marcia Witter suffered burns and smoke inhalation in the blaze, which erupted at 3829 Violet Glen on June 24, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office and fire officials.
Fire crews searched the two-story home after neighbors told them a resident may have been trapped inside, according to Battalion Chief John Tenger of the Escondido Fire Department. Witter was initially taken in critical condition to Palomar Medical Center and later transferred to UCSD Medical Center. He condition deteriorated and she died Friday night, the Medical Examiner’s Office reported.
The fire caused an estimated $306,000 in damage to her home, authorities said.
