Esther Valdes: Immigrant seeking asylum may face deportation despite claiming threats

SAN DIEGO (KUSI)- An emotional rally today in downtown to help stop the deportation of an immigrant seeking asylum. Immigration advocates and people of faith are trying to stop Constantin Bakala from being sent back to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He and his family made the long trek from there to the San Ysidro port of entry, traveling through 10 countries and surviving kidnappings and violence.

He was fleeing political persecution from the government.

Bakala was separated from his wife and seven children and sent to an immigration detention center in Georgia.

Now after losing his asylum case, his family is fighting to get him back.

KUSI contributor and immigration attorney Esther Valdes was at KUSI to discuss this specific immigration case.
