Etienne Charles & Creole Soul

The island vibe of Trinidad is coming to San Diego when trumpeter Etienne Charles storms the TSRI Auditorium with his high-energy sextet Creole Soul on April 4th! These cats are gettin’ ready to engulf that space with a myriad of vibes from Charles’ Afro-Caribbean roots to calypso to reggae…are you ready for this journey of new jazz expression? Say YES! Props from JazzTimes: “Etienne Charles is a daring improviser who delivers with heart wrenching lyricism.” And check out this tough lineup: Charles (trumpet/percussion), Janklow (sax), Tony Tixier (piano), Samir Moulay (Guitar), Dean Hulett (bass) & Jonathan Pinson (drums).

Plus, this DON’T-MISS concert falls on DAN ATKINSON DAY, as declared by The City of San Diego! Why? Atkinson will be recognized by the Jazz Journalists Association as a 2018 Jazz Hero in a special pre-show presentation. Atkinson is the founder and Artistic Director of The Athenaeum Jazz At TSRI series which presents 14-18 concerts annually, founder of UCSD Jazz Camp, executive officer of the Western Jazz Presenters Network (just a few of his accomplishments!) and has been a driving force in the Southern California music scene for three decades!

They joined us on the KUSI patio during Good Morning San Diego previewing their performance.
