Examining the controversy at SANDAG over Transnet Funds

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The year long battle over roads versus transit has taken on a new dimension. The hiring of a new Executive Director at SANDAG, Hasn Ikhrata, has cause tension and division within the agency.

KUSI’s Steve Bosh reports that SANDAG determines how Transnet funds from a half cent increase in the sales tax from 2004 is spent on local transportation project, mostly the roads.

This attempt by the new executive director to shift funds from promised road projects to transit projects only has caused friction.

County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar walked out of last week’s meeting after Ikhrata reportedly tried to silence board members who didn’t support his plan.
