F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet damaged while landing

SAN DIEGO (AP) – Authorities say an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet was damaged when it slid off the runway while landing at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego County.

Sgt. Regina Cruz, a spokeswoman for the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, told the San Diego Union-Tribune that two Hornet jets were trying to land at the same time Tuesday afternoon during a training exercise when 1 of the jets slid off the runway.

Cruz says no one was hurt and the extent of damage to the aircraft was not yet known.

Cruz says flight operations at the air station were not affected and the runway was not damaged.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
