Fallbrook head-on collision fatality ID’d

FALLBROOK (CNS) – Authorities Monday released the name of a 37-year-old
man who died after allegedly causing a head-on collision in Fallbrook that also
sent two men to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Ryan Daniel Callahan of Fallbrook died at the scene of the crash, which
occurred on Reche Road just east of Gird Road around 9:15 p.m. Sunday,
according to California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical
Examiner's Office.

Callahan was driving eastbound on Reche Road in a 1991 Toyota Corolla
when, for unknown reasons, he veered into opposing lanes and collided with a
westbound 2003 BMW 540i driven by a 32-year-old man, CHP Officer Jim
Bettencourt said in a statement.

The BMW driver and a male passenger in his vehicle were taken by
ambulance to Palomar Medical Center, Bettencourt said, describing their
injuries as moderate.

“At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in
this collision,” he said early this morning.
