Over half-a-million people visited San Diego beaches over Fourth of July holiday

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Families and friends hit San Diego beaches early Tuesday to stake their spaces early for Fourth of July celebrations throughout the day. 

Some Fourth of July stats

The San Diego Fire Department estimated 572,100 people went to local beaches over the weekend and Tuesday.

  • 266 medical aid calls were made
  • 283 total rescues were performed 
  • Lifeguards reported more than 8,800 preventative acts to help keep beachgoers safe. 

It was clear and sunny most of the day. The air temperature was in the high 60s and the water temp was 65. The majority of the rescue activity occurred in Pacific and Windansea beaches.
