Family and Friends Remember A Mother Killed In A Tragic Accident

Tragedy in a Shelltown neighborhood.

37-year-old Anna Herrera-Rodriguez was walking both her daughter and her own to school on Cottonwood St. when somehow she was hit by an SDG&E truck.

One witness says the mother appeared to be trying protect the girls when she was run over. Raquel Arias says neighbors rushed into help.

Herrera-Rodriguez' 11-year-old son says he and his dad were at his grandmothers when it happened and they rushed outside. His mother was then rushed to UCSD hospital.

The girls, 4 and 6 year-old, suffered multiple injuries. Arias says her daughter Jaslene suffered liver and pelvic damage.

The Rodriguez family was devastated to learn, a short time later that Anna Herrera Rodriguez did not survive her injuries.

At this point police say they do not believe the 55-year-old driver was speeding at the time. They are going to complete a full investigation and that the early morning sun may have played a part.  But they have not ruled out distracted driving.

SDG&E released a statement saying, “this is a devastating accident and our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the victim.”
