Famous boat finishes refurbishing, is ready to set sail again

SAN DIEGO (KUSI)- The finishing touches are being done to a boat built in 1924 ready to set sail once again. The Quascilla gained notoriety for being the first to sail in the transpacific yacht race captained by a woman, Kathy Baker.

Another San Diego connection to the famous race, it was the first time a boat raced with a newly shaped hull.

You can see the Quascilla had a traditional hull with the keel stretching virtually the length of the boat.

However in the 1950’s a new design debuted created by a San Diego designer.

After 14 months of rebuilding, this real life piece of history will set sail this weekend, hopefully for another 95 years.
