Father Joe’s Villages’ new program brings health care to the homeless

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – They wake up in bushes, eat out of garbage cans and live a life on the edge of sickness. Knowing this, Father Joe’s Villages is going to be making house calls, on the street.

“We go to the people, where they are,” says Doctor Jeffery Norris, Medical Director of Father Joe’s Villages.

Right now, there are at least 8-thousand people living on the streets of San Diego. At least one in three is suffering from some kind of Chronic disease.

“What this will accomplish is reaching the most in need, those who would not normally go to the doctor, those who need the care the most,” says Deacon Jim Varga of Father Joe’s Villages.
