Father Junipero Serra will be canonized

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Pope Francis announced Thursday that Father Junipero Serra will be canonized this fall.

Father Serra is the founder of California’s missions, including the San Diego De Alcala Mission.

The ceremony is set to take place in the fall during a visit to the United States, according to the Pope.

The canonization will officially declare Father Junipero Serra to be a saint.
