Federal, state, local officials endorse SDSU West in joint announcement
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — SDSU West continues to pile up endorsements for Measure G, it’s initiative to expand the university on the Mission Valley stadium site.
New endorsements came from eight elected officials representing San Diego: two members of congress, three state legislators, and three city council members.
Measure G will have formidable competition from measure E, SoccerCity’s initiative for a much larger mixed-use development project that includes a soccer stadium.
These elected officials came to deliver two messages: one positive, one negative.
Both initiatives had to overcome obstacles to get here.
The city attorney’s lawsuit to toss both off the ballot failed.
SoccerCity lost a lawsuit saying the university illegally used the school moniker in ballot materials.
And SDSU had problems meeting the deadline for verifying signatures to get on the ballot.
Should both measures eclipse 50 percent of the vote in November, the measure with a higher amount of support would win. The supporters of the winning plan would then begin negotiations to buy the stadium site from the city.
