Felons arrested at Pine Valley Border checkpoint

PINE VALLEY (CNS) – A 47-year-old felon was arrested after Border Patrol agents at the checkpoint near Pine Valley found a shotgun in his truck, as was his passenger, who had an outstanding felony warrant for her arrest, officials with the agency announced Wednesday.

A Border Patrol dog alerted agents to the 1995 Dodge Ram at the Interstate 8 checkpoint around 3 a.m. Friday morning, and a subsequent search turned up the 12-gauge shotgun and two small plastic bags containing methamphetamine residue, according to a Border Patrol statement.

Authorities with the federal agency said that due to the man’s criminal history he would face federal charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations.

His 48-year-old passenger initially tried to use an alias, but agents later found her name and a records check showed an outstanding felony warrant for her arrest, the Border Patrol statement said. She was turned over to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, authorities said.

Neither suspect’s name was immediately available.
