Female officer assaulted by man in Oceanside
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A police officer was assaulted Saturday morning by a 58-year-old Oregon man in northern Oceanside.
The officer approached Alan Wayne Croghan who was sleeping near Surfrider Way and The Strand around 6:45 a.m. and woke him up.
Croghan refused to hand over his ID and disobeyed the officer when she told him to remain seated.
Croghan lunged toward the officer, knocking her to the ground. She struck her head on a large rock as Croghan jumped on top of her.
According to Lt. Leonard Cosby said the suspect threatened to kill the officer.
Another officer arrived at the scene and struck the suspect on the head with a baton.
Croghan was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer, felony assault on an officer and assault with injury on an officer.
The female officer was treated at a hospital and released.
