Fiery cash involving three big-rigs shuts down I-15

FALLBROOK (KUSI) — Northbound Interstate 15 was completely shut down Thursday morning due to a fiery crash between three big rigs in Fallbrook, which left at least one motorist seriously injured.

Two tractor-trailers collided on I-15 near Mission Ave. around 1:45 a.m., leaving one truck stalled in the far left lane, according to officers at the scene. Both truck drivers exited their vehicles and a short while later, a Costco truck crashed into the stalled truck, according to California Highway Patrol officers. One truck then caught fire.

The driver of the Costco truck was transferred to Palomar Medical Center with serious injuries, officers said. The drivers in the first collision suffered no injuries, according to CHP.

Northbound traffic on I-15 was completely halted fir several hours due to debris from the crash and emergency vehicles on scene. A SigAlert was issued and CHP began diverting traffic around the freeway via Mission Ave.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
