Fire burns through vacant building in El Cajon

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A fire burned though a vacant building in El Cajon early Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called around 1:30 a.m. To the 500 block of South Marshall Avenue near El Cajon Boulevard.

Spokeswoman Monica Zech said the roof of the warehouse was on fire and the Heartland Fire & Rescue team called for additional help to put out the flames.

More than 30 firefighters from multiple agencies helped to extinguish the fire, which took about an hour and 20 minutes.

The owner of the building said homeless people would often break into the building to sleep, so as firefighters dug through the wreckage they also searched for bodies.

No bodies have been found so far.

Zech said no one else was injured.
