Fire causes $90K in damages in Pacific Beach apartment complex

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A fire of unknown origin damaged two residences at a Pacific Beach apartment complex Tuesday, sending one person to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, displacing two residents and causing an estimated $90,000 worth of damage.

The blaze in the 2000 block of Pacific Beach Drive erupted about 8 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Crews were able to contain the flames to two bedrooms in an upstairs unit, though an adjacent apartment sustained some smoke damage, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said. The personnel had the fire under control within 20 minutes.

A bystander suffered smoke-related respiratory difficulty and was taken to an emergency room for evaluation, Munoz said.

The American Red Cross was called in to help two women who live in the complex arrange for interim housing.

Investigators set the monetary losses at $75,000 to the structure and $15,000 to contents. They were unable to determine the cause of the blaze, as sometimes is the case in fire investigations, Munoz said.
