Firefighters battled a brush fire just off SR 94
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Firefighters extinguished a fire that scorched trees and brush alongside state Route 94 in the Golden Hill area Friday morning and prompted the brief evacuation of an apartment building nearby.
The blaze was reported shortly before 6:20 a.m. in an area just off the right shoulder of westbound SR-94 west of Interstate 15, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
An apartment building near 33rd and C streets was evacuated as crews worked to contain the fire, fire officials said.
The two right lanes of westbound SR-94 were shut down around 6:35 a.m. along with the 30th Street exit.
Firefighters had the fire out within 20 minutes and crews estimated that it burned about a quarter-acre of brush.
As of 8:30 a.m., the right lane and the 30th street offramp remained closed.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
