Fleeing motorist crashes through trolley crossing gate
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A motorist fleeing from a Border Patrol agent Monday
plowed a car through a trolley crossing gate at a Nestor-area intersection,
then jumped out and made a failed attempt to escape on foot, authorities
reported.
The crash at Tocayo Avenue and Oro Vista Road occurred about 9:30 a.m.,
according to San Diego police. The pursuing federal officer took the
unidentified suspect into custody moments later, SDPD public-affairs Officer Ed
Zwibel said.
The arrestee, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to a
hospital for evaluation of a shoulder injury he suffered during the foot chase,
possibly by being hit by a passing vehicle.
The incident left the road crossing shut down along with a nearby
offramp from southbound Interstate 5 through late morning.
