Former Pro Tennis Player Rosalyn Nideffer Defends Her Title at the USTA Hard Court Championships
The 44th Annual USTA National Women’s 50-90 Hard Court Championships have embarked upon the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club this week. And all eyes are on 2-Time defending champion Rosalyn Nideffer.
Nideffer a former touring professional has dominated the 50’s division the last two years, and she looks like she will do it again in 2016. The Rancho Bernardo Resident cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kristin Fudalla of Portland, Oregon on Wednesday.
The 55 year old Nideffer is one of the young ones, there are women playing in this tournament as old as 94. The 300 plus participants come from 26 of the 50 states, including on participant that few in from France.
Some background on Nideffer, she played professionally for roughly 20 years and has some impressive statistics on her tennis resume. She has one career singles title, she won the doubles title at the French Open twice and was twice a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon.
The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club’s 44th Annual Men’s Senior Championships are also taking place the same week in conjunction with the women’s events and will include both singles and doubles for 60 and over, 65 and over, 70 and over, 75 and over and 80 and over age groups. Although the men’s events are not national championships, they will feature many senior players who regularly compete in national tournaments. More than 300 players are expected for the men’s and women’s tournaments.
