Four detained on report of gunman on I-805

NATIONAL CITY (CNS) – A report that a man was wielding what appeared to be a pistol alongside Interstate 805 in the South Bay Wednesday prompted law enforcement authorities to close a section of the freeway briefly.

A passer-by made an emergency call shortly before 11:30 a.m. to report seeing the possibly armed man next to a car and a recreational vehicle pulled over on the shoulder of northbound lanes, near state Route 52 in National City, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers halted all northbound traffic in the area and detained four people at gunpoint.

All lanes were reopened within about 15 minutes.

Highway Patrol questioned and released the detainees. No arrests in the case had been made by late this afternoon, CHP public-affairs Officer Jake Sanchez said.

It was unclear why the involved motorists pulled over alongside the freeway in the first place.
