Week 3: Francis Parker Lancers 42, Montgomery Aztecs 0
The Francis Parker Lancers launched their way into another victory, as they defeated the Montgomery Aztecs, 42-0, in Week Three of non-league play.
Francis Parker opened up the scoreboard with a 25-yard pass from senior quarterback Ryan Sanborn to senior wide receiver Jonathan Gordon. The Lancers took the 7-0 lead.
One touchdown was not enough. Sanborn threw another pass that resulted in a touchdown ending the first quarter 14-0.
In the second quarter there were a back-to-back interceptions. Sanborn intercepted the ball and carried it to the 40-yard line. The next play, corner back Elias Carranza intercepted the ball and secured it for the Aztecs.
However, the interception was not enough to keep the Lancers out of the Aztec endzone. Sanborn would again show he can do it all, he carried the ball two yards and ended the half 21-0 Lancers.
In the second half, the Lancers kept pressing the Aztecs. Sanborn connected plays with Gordon which led to a hand off and touchdown run by junior wide receiver Sam Camposeco. The score by the end of the third quarter was 28-0 Francis Parker.
In the fourth quarter, neither team gave up, as they both played with heart and spirit.
Francis Parker again showed up to add more points to their lead. Sanborn ran the ball to the Montgomery 15-yard line which created a set play. Afterward junior running back Trevor Brokowski ran the ball for a touchdown, giving the Lancers the win with the final score 35-0.
This result sets Francis Parker at 3-0 in non-league play and Montgomery at 1-2.
Next week the Lancers will be having an away game at Hoover, while Montgomery will host San Diego.
The Montgomery Aztecs will be defending their home turf in the South Bay against the Francis Parker Lancers in Week 3 of the Prep Pigskin Report.
Montgomery will be at home after being on the road for two weeks. They currently hold a 1-1 record after a close 24-18 loss to Classical Academy. However, that small bump on the road will not stop them from playing to their full potential.
The Aztecs will need continue their rhythm of play in order to reach a second win of the pre-league season and their first at home.
Junior quarterback Keoa Gumataotao’s leadership will be essential on Friday.
Last week, he completed a total of 225 passing yards, carried 12 times and rushed 45-yards.
Two players to watch are sophmore running back Jaheem Williams and sophomore tight end Agelu Meredith. Williams gained a total of 91 receiving yards while Meredith gained 81. With these impressive stats, the Aztecs have the driving force to reach their first non-league home game win.
Do not underestimate the visiting team, they are a force to be reckoned with.
Francis Parker is coming to the South Bay with a 2-0 record and all the confidence to stay undefeated after the 56-6 win over Clairemont.
The Lancers proved that victory is on their agenda.
Senior quarterback Ryan Sanborn completed a total of 166 passing yards.
Senior Jonathan Gordon is another offensive player that will be essential on Friday. Last week, he had 126 rushing yards, with his running game going strong the Aztecs will need a strong defense to keep him out of the end zone.
Do not keep the underclassmen out of mind when it comes to contributing to the success of the team.
Junior Sam Camposeco had 85 rushing yards. With his ability to carry the ball and create positive results for the team, his presence on the field will be essential against the Aztecs.
Be ready for the matchup this Friday night. Francis Parker vs. Montgomery is set for 7 p.m. at Montgomery High School.
