Freeway chase in stolen truck ends in San Diego man’s arrest
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A man was in police custody early Friday morning after leading police on a lengthy chase that ended in Kearny Mesa.
The chase began before 2 a.m. when the driver, Luke Wayne Shaver, blew through a red light at the intersection of Sports Arena Boulevard and Hancock Street. The truck that Shaver was driving turned out to be stolen. The pursuit continued onto interstates 5 and 8 and parts of the Clairemont area.
Thanks to the use of a spike strip, police were able to slow the pick-up down. After it came to a stop on Aero Drive near Interstate 15, Shaver was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle turned up evidence of alcohol and drug paraphernalia.
Shaver was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and evading a peace officer, in addition to other allegations.
