Freeway Closures
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A pair of freeway closures will make things interesting just north of San Diego County in the next two weeks, Caltrans officials said.
Demolition work on a freeway overpass on Interstate 5 at San Juan Capistrano will force the overnight closure of both directions of the freeway, starting at 11 p.m. both tonight and Saturday night. Reopening is planned for 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The southern side of the Ortega Highway (Route 74) overpass above the 5 Freeway is being removed this weekend, about 70 mioles north of San Diego. Traffic on both the 5 Freeway and 73 toll road will both be affected.
Traffic north of San Clemente and south of Irvine will be forced to exit the freeway at Rourte 74, then re-enter on adjacent onramps. Because of heavy anticipated traffic, cross traffic and drivers wishing to enter or exit the 5 at the 74 will be detoured to nearby ramps or bridges.
The following weekend, and in northwestern Orange County, the San Diego (405) Freeway will be closed for 20 hours, starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, and to reopen at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18.
