Friday firework shows kick off July 4th celebration

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A pair of firework shows are taking place in San Diego Friday for those who cannot wait for Saturday's Fourth of July celebrations.

San Ysidro's Larsen Field, at 4061 Camino de la Plaza, will begin their Independence Day festivities at 3 p.m. with food and family activities. The fireworks are scheduled to take place around 8:45 p.m.

For those in the North County, Oceanside's 127th Independence Day celebration will start at 6:30 p.m., and will take place just north of the El Corazon Senior Center at 3302 Senior Center Drive. Their fireworks are planned for 9 p.m.

The San Diego Symphony's Summer Pops will also begin three nights of July 4th-themed shows, featuring San Diego native and 'American Idol' runner-up Jessica Sanchez. Shows are scheduled to begin all three nights at 7:30 p.m. at Embarcadero Marina Park South.
