Fundraiser to be held for Border Patrol Agent who broke spine
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A fundraiser is scheduled today for the family of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent who suffered two broken vertebrae while playing for the San Diego Enforcers semi-pro football team in March.
Kurt Nagel isn’t paralyzed but faces a long recovery, according to organizers of the event, which begins at 11 a.m. at Buca di Beppo at 10749 Westview Parkway. The restaurant has pledged 15 percent of today’s sales to the Nagel family.
The 36-year-old former Marine plays defensive back for the team made up of local law enforcement officers, firefighters and military police. He suffered the injury during a game on March 26, and subsequently underwent surgery to insert screws in his neck.
A GoFundMe page to help the family cover medical cost is online. Nearly $33,000 had been raised as of Wednesday afternoon.
