Game of the Week: Crawford Colts 34, Coronado Islanders 7

Let there be light! The Crawford Colts (6-2) sure did break in their new stadium with a big win over the Islanders from Coronado (3-5) 34-7.

The game started with many Alumni from Crawford returning back to their old stomping grounds, one of which is KUSI’s very own Carlos Amezcua, of the Good Morning San Diego show. This was the first home game the Colts played in three and a half years.

Talk about getting the job done, Matthew Clark started this game off when he returned the opening kickoff 63 yards, setting himself up for a touchdown a few plays later giving the Colts a 7-0 lead. The islanders only had the ball for a few plays before it was intercepted and the Colts would kick for a field goal.  Coronado tries to make their way into Crawford territory but not before Jaden Sanders intercepts another pass setting Matthew Clark up for another touchdown. Two more touchdowns before going into the half, Crawford had this game in the bag!

What better way to cut the ribbon to the new stable than with a big win over Coronado! Next week Crawford will host San Diego in another League match up! Check out the Prep Pigskin Report to find out if Crawford will advance to 7-2!

Preview: The Game of the Week will be taking place at the new stadium of Crawford High School, as the Coronado Islanders face off against the Colts in their second league.

The Crawford Colts have been waiting for this game all season long, not for the competition but for the location, finally their new stadium is complete and the Colts will get to host a team at home. This season Crawford is 5-2 but have managed to defeat some of San Diego’s finest teams, and putting up high scores at that. Senior QB Shawn Balala has thrown 656 yards for 13 touchdowns, on the receiving end of 5 of those touchdowns is Ali Musa for 303 yards this season. Niko Perry has also scored 5 touchdowns rushing for 270 yards.

So far this season the Islanders are 3-4 and hoping to gain another win this week against Crawford. This game may be one of the toughest this season for Coronado, but with their strong defense stopping the ball their offense will have more time on the field. Leading in tackles for the Islanders is Braedon Laughlin who has 61 tackles so far this season. More time on the field for QB Bryce Alexander (642 yards passing and 269 rushing) we are sure to see him pass to Caden Gentry (202 receiving yards) or Trent Chatman (219 rushing yards) running the ball.
