Gas leak prompts evacuation orders in Otay Mesa

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Evacuations have been ordered for some homes in a neighborhood in Otay Mesa due to a gas leak, officials confirmed.

Firefighters responded to a report of a gas line break at 1232 Riviera Pointe Street in Otay Mesa. The water department was working on the water line in the area when they struck a two-inch gas line.

The San Diego Fire Department said six homes are under evacuation and 11 homes are ordered to shelter in place.

SDPD has closed access to Riviera Pointe St. until further notice.
