Gas Tax Repeal Initiative Campaign update

Want cheap gas? For the second and third time in weeks, the Gas Tax Repeal Initiative Campaign is hosting signature drive rallies for its petition at two gas stations in North San Diego County that have agreed to lower their prices to $1.99 and $2.49 a gallon on Monday, Feb 5 only.

For two hours on Monday morning, Monday, Feb 5, Gas Tax Repeal supporter and gas station owner Linda O’Brien is lowered prices of regular unleaded gasoline to $2.49/gal during Monday’s event from 7-9am at her Mobil gas station at 310 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas, CA 92024. While customers are filling up, they can also sign the petition to repeal the Gas Tax which costs Californians upwards of $700/year.
Then, later that afternoon from 3-6pm, Carlsbad Shell at 2509 Palomar Airport Road Carlsbad, CA 92011 did the same thing – except at $1.99 a gallon. Carl DeMaio hosted The DeMaio Report live during the signature gathering event.

“If you eliminate the massive taxes and fees imposed by the politicians on California’s gas, filling up for $1.99 should happen every day,” Reform California chairman and Gas Tax Repeal Initiative leader Carl DeMaio said. “We’re appreciative that the owners of these gas stations are doing this, and we encourage voters to fill up not only their tanks – but help us fill up the signature blocks on the Gas Tax Repeal Petitions that we will have onsite,” DeMaio continued.

This week, DeMaio announced that the Gas Tax Repeal Initiative campaign had already collected over 450,000 signatures of the needed 584,000 signatures to force the Gas Tax Repeal onto the November 2018 ballot for a public vote.

Monday’s discount gas events are expected to bring thousands of voters across the region to either drop off the petition they already downloaded at, or to simply sign the petition from the convenience of a drive-through line – or while filling up with the cheapest gas in the region, if not the entire state.
A similar event two weeks ago in Indio, CA resulted in a line of cars more than half a mile long waiting to sign the petition to repeal the Gas Tax – and take advantage of unbelievably cheap gas prices.

Facts about this massive hike:
-On Nov 1, 2017, Californians became subject to an additional tax of 12.5 cents more per gallon (20 cents more for diesel)
-Estimates suggest it will cost $700 or more per family, per year
–The tax also hits business owners who rely on transporting goods, raising the cost of everything from apples to Zinfindel
-Auto registration fees will increase as much as $175 a year – striking the wallets of hard-working families across the state
-The tax revenue goes into the state’s General Fund, meaning there’s zero guarantee the money will be used to actually fund the transportation “fixes” they claim will happen
-More than 45 events have been held across the state to continue to grow the public awareness of the effort
–More than 400,000 petitions have already been returned
