‘General Fire’ now fully contained

BANNER GRADE (CNS) – A firearm-sparked wildfire that blackened about
1,270 open acres since last weekend in remote, rugged terrain southeast of
Julian was fully contained Friday, authorities said.

The blaze in the Banner Grade area of eastern San Diego County caused no
reported structural damage and necessitated no evacuations, according to Cal
Fire. A half-dozen firefighters suffered minor injuries while working the
lines.

Recreational shooting sparked the conflagration — dubbed the General
Fire due to its proximity to a landmark general store in the area — south of
state Route 78 and east of state Route 79 about noon Sunday. The flames mostly
moved in an easterly direction, toward desert terrain, according to the state
agency.
